Proverbs 30:14 "There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men."
This is one of four wicked generations described by Agur (30:11-14):
- The rebellious generation (30:11)
- The self-righteous generation (30:12)
- The prideful and haughty generation (30:13)
- The oppressive generation (30:14).
This generation is without mercy. They are greedy and ruthless towards the poor. They use their mouths and words as weapons of cruelty.
The Christian is to be the exact opposite. Ask yourself, "Today, how am I using my mouth? Is my mouth a weapon of kindness or unkindness?" We are not to be overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). We will always have the poor with us as Jesus said (Mark 14:7). Raising the minimum wage will not eliminate poverty, if anything it may increase it. Anyway, it is not the government’s responsibility to take care of the poor. There will always be someone that is better off than another. We need to remember the poor and help them as God leads (Gal. 2:10). Let’s be known as a generation in whose mouths is the law of kindness (Prov. 31:26).
