Proverbs 29:8 “Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.”
Those that scorn and mock God’s Word bring a city into a trap, but those that follow God’s Word turn away His wrath. Before Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, no doubt Lot was a restraining force on God’s wrath. However, the time came that these cities became so wicked that God could withhold His just judgment no longer. He sent His angels to rescue Lot and his family, and then destroyed the cities (Genesis 19). Even Lot’s son-in-laws and married daughters were destroyed because they mocked that God would actually destroy Sodom. They allowed this wicked city influence them for evil.
Do not let the world shape you into its mold, but constantly behold the Lord (Rom. 12:1-2). As we behold His glory, He will change us into His image by the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 3:18). Today, ask the Lord to help you keep your eyes focused on Him, so that He will change You, and then change others through you. Have you purposed to live for Him? How are you living wisely for Him now? Do not be like Lot’s family. They should have been shining testimonies for the Lord in Sodom, but rather allowed the city to shape them into its mold.
