Proverbs 7:23 “Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.”
Context – Solomon commands his son to keep his commandments and to embrace wisdom. He then tells his son about a young foolish man who fell prey to the prostitute’s trap. Those who commit sexual sin are oblivious and naïve to the destruction it brings. They are like an ox going to the slaughter house, the fool going to the correction of the stocks, and a bird unknowingly entering into a snare. This sin kills and casts away its wounded.
The results of sexual sin are extremely damaging to a person’s life and this sin should be avoided at all costs. While God’s forgives, the physical consequences of sexual sin are permanent in this life (1 John 1:9). Have you committed yourself to remaining pure? Sexual sin is rampant in our culture today; however, as Christians, we are called to live above the culture’s standard of what is socially acceptable (Romans 12:1-2). We are to live according to God’s will to abstain from fornication (adultery, incest, and sodomy are included) (1 Thes. 4:3). What is the foundation for the standards to which you hold? Any thinking contrary to God’s way is going to lead to death (Prov. 14:12). Are you allowing the world to mold your thinking or God to mold the thinking (mind) of Christ in you (Phil. 2:5-8)? How is the molding influence of God’s Word being evidenced in your life today?
