Proverbs 5:12

Proverbs 5:12 “And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;”

Context – The mournful (roar, growl, groan) cry of the one who was attracted and gave in to the temptation of the sin of immorality.  He has come to the end of himself only to realize that his unteachableness has wasted his flesh and body with disease.  His shriek is not a cry of repentance, but a cry of hopeless despair, guilt, and remorse.

Do you have a teachable heart or are you secretly defiant against what you have been taught from your parents, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so on?  Notice, Solomon does not say this guy openly spoke of his hatred for instruction and reproof, but that his heart despised it which means he scorned, rejected, and abhorred it.  However, eventually his disregard of what he been taught certainly did come out and it had horrible consequences.

Do not reject the Godly instruction you have been given, but take fast hold of it and keep it because  it is your life (Prov. 4:13).  Live in light of eternity.  Ask God to give you a heart that is sensitive to His leading and to help you obey His leading.

Galatians 5:16 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
